DMV Update

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Today I got an email back from the DMV/DPS/DVS.

Thank you for contacting Driver and Vehicle Services,

We found the error and will request that another card be made and mailed. We have developed a bigger backlog and now are taking approximately 6-8 weeks with the corrections.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,
Casey #24

Of course, 6-8 weeks of waiting until a new card arrives will be well past the 30-day life of my yellow-slip-temporary-license. So I wrote back (third time emailing) to find out how to remain a legal driver. I’ll keep you posted.

DMV: “Oops!”

Looks like a case of scrambled identity. Christy and I applied for our new MN drivers licenses last month. We were already disappointed that unlike IL and NC who produce your new license same-day, MN mails the new license to you 3-4 weeks later.

So I was pretty excited when I received the envelopes in the mail. I’m tired of using (or forgetting) my yellow-slip-temporary-license.

Wrong photo and signature

As you can see, the DMV (actually it’s the DPS - Department of Public Safety, Driver and Vehicle Services division) made some major screwups in producing the cards.

The name, address, and other printed information are all correct. It’s just the photo and signature that are totally wrong! Probably a nice off-by-one error somewhere in their database. Their phone number was busy all week, so this is probably not a small occurrence. We’ll see how long it takes to get a correct replacement. (And whether our temporary licenses will last that long.)
